Looking forward to increasingly desperation "late stage capitalism" memes in the coming years

@lain It's supposedly been late stage for decades now, meanwhile, in its current form, it kinda erased two thirds of world poverty, brought unrivaled prosperity and mostly turned into a pretty solid welfare state anyway. Oh wait, the blocks of Mastodon are coming.

@pony that's the main reason I'm skeptical about it. There's tons of injustice in capitalism, but it's so much better than everything that came before.
@lain @pony I don't see people wanting to return to feudalism.
@lain But they don't usually complain about late-stage capitalism, are they?

@lain It always reminds me of an elementary school teacher we had and she was pretty old and was obviously taught in this marxist ideology, having spent most of her life teaching in the former socialist country, obviously, and struggled in the history class with this concept of, there was feudalism, then capitalism, then socialism... and well... now we're going back to capitalism I assume? She was pretty lost there.

@pony
It's also destroying the planet as a side effect, and inequality is rising. But sure, good stuff 👌
@lain

@ciaby @lain Well, we're the team "deal with these known fixable issues rather than replace it all with a crazy distopia" here... what can I say.

@pony @lain Massive amounts of food are wasted (and tens of thousands die daily) because of the fundamental profit-oriented logic of capitalism, despite the technology to avoid it. Most of a continent was colonized in a few decades. Neo-liberalism has been, and will continue to erode the European welfare states. The post-WWII period of growth is never coming back.
